Well Shit, It’s Almost Christmas!

Can you believe it? December has come barrelling in like a reindeer on caffeine, and I’m nowhere near ready. Usually, I’m one of those smugly prepared people who have their Christmas shopping done before December even thinks about showing up. But this year? Not so much. Turns out, launching The Grimoire, juggling my two other businesses, wrangling two little humans, and generally existing makes for quite the full plate.

Oh, and naturally, I thought it’d be a brilliant idea to take on some Christmas crafting. Embroidery, as it turns out, is not my calling. My kids will, however, be hanging their new handmade stockings with pride (or pity)—each lovingly stitched with the words “Mum tried, with love.” A masterpiece? Not quite. Memorable? Absolutely.

Beta Reading and Bookish Adventures

One of the unexpected highlights of my year was completing my first beta read for an independent author.

If you’re not familiar, a beta read is where you get to dive into a manuscript before it’s fully polished, providing feedback on plot twists, character development, and whether that big dramatic moment actually makes sense. It was such an incredible experience to support an author this way, and I can’t wait to do more in the future.

Book Requests and New Stock Updates

This year, I had the pleasure of sourcing a TikTok Shop exclusive edition of The Hurricane Wars for a customer who couldn’t find it anywhere else. On the stock front, our beautiful book boxes should be arriving this week (fingers crossed!), and our sleeves are officially in New Zealand waters. I may or may not have been obsessively tracking the ship's progress like a literary pirate waiting for treasure. Oh, and speaking of treasures, the release of Legacy of Gods deluxe edition paperbacks will be dropping once a month until March.

Looking Ahead to 2025

The Grimoire has so many exciting plans in store for 2025. From new book releases to our upcoming initiatives, there’s so much to look forward to. On a personal note, I’ll also be setting my Goodreads reading goal in January—though I’ll be adjusting my expectations a little. Let’s just say 2024 didn’t quite go to plan on that front, and I’m aiming for something a touch more realistic in the new year. I’ll share my final reading tally and 2025 goal in the January newsletter—stay tuned!
